I have several years of psychiatric hospital training specializing in the treatment of dissociative disorders and related conditions. My trauma therapy training was at the Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma in Dallas, Texas, and was under the direct supervision of the renowned psychiatrist, author, and researcher, Colin Ross, M.D.
I research dissociative issues, have published in a professional journal and have given presentations at professional conferences on dissociation and dissociative conditions.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I have three masters degrees: Mental Health Counseling, Information Science, and Public Administration. My specialty training also includes advanced Ericksonian Brief Psychotherapy and Hypnosis and child & adolescent psychotherapy with the Dallas Psychoanalytic Institute. Although also trained in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), my therapy is informed by these rather than specializing in these therapeutic modalities.
The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential permits a person to provide both counseling and psychotherapy, however, only properly qualified professionals are to provide psychotherapy. A counselor generally deals with specific, conscious, short-term issues and is not generally experienced in major psychiatric disorders. A psychotherapist on the other hand deals with more severe problems such as identity issues, psychosomatic disorders, sexual difficulties, personality disorders, and perhaps forms of psychoses. Because of the nature of the issues involved, therapy is usually longer term than counseling.
